Chester Morris, Happy Birthday! Boston Blackie Born!

Although there were no official nominations for the second Academy Awards, Chester Morris (born February 16th; 1901-1970) was under consideration for his performance in Alibi, 1929, but his true claim to fame came through  Boston Blackie, a character made popular by writer Jack Boyle in 1914. Morris first starred as Blackie (a reformed thief, never trusted by the Police) in 1941 with Meet Boston Blackie, completing 13 more, with Boston Blackie’s Chinese Venture, released on March 2nd, 1949, being the last. While some of the detective film series suffered change in stars (The Falcon, The Saint), Morris finished the run of Boston Blackie and we are the better for it; a fun, entertaining series.
