Some of the most cleaver films ever made, crisp storytelling, unique characterizations, fanciful results, unusual casting and memorable experiences, that was the work of director Jules Dassin. Jewel heists, capers, thrillers, film-noir, comedy, drama, this was his territory, not feeling out of place or step in any genre. Did I mention casting that was remarkable? Remember Lucille Ball in the Film-Noir “Two Smart People”? How about Barry Fitzgerald in the Documentaryesque “The Naked City”? Again, this seems par for the course of Dassin’s career; what a wild ride one takes upon the roller-coaster known as “the films of Jules Dassin.
