William S. Hart, Happy Birthday!

Ride with me now into the days of yesteryear, galloping along the Western trail we see the many faces of the movie-cowboy, John Wayne, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Alfred (The Lash) La Rue, Eddie Dean, Rex Allen, Sunset Carson, William (Hopalong Cassidy) Boyd,  Johnny Mack Brown, Ken Maynard, Hoot Gibson,  Tex Ritter, Bob Steele,  Charles (The Durango Kid) Starrett, on and on the list goes from A-stars to B-movies; serials to feature-length, from top draw to the third on a triple-bill. But, it was in 1914 that the original movie cowboy was born. William S. Hart burst onto the silver-screen and into the hearts of America and beyond. He acted in 74 films in just 11 years, with 53 credits as director, 19 as producer and 10 as writer; Hart was prolific to say the very least and we might add tireless. So pull on your boots, slip on your hat, rustle up some grub, sit back with your sweetheart and watch a William S. Hart movie today; many are available on YouTube. Enjoy…
